Primary care that works with no signal.

Phila runs entirely in the browser on any phone, fully offline after the first load. It carries WHO-adapted symptom triage, on-device AI screening, encrypted patient records and medical-aid claim preparation — from a community health worker’s phone to a clinic to a private practice. A registered clinician makes every clinical decision: Phila is decision-support, not a medical device. Live at phila.ebenworks.co.

Phila on a phone: a symptom assessment with a live risk preview

One app, from the doorstep to the clinic.

WHO-adapted triage

A symptom check that stratifies to RED / YELLOW / GREEN with a referral recommendation. Reviewed against WHO IMCI, W4SS and PEN guidelines, with per-rule provenance. A clinician confirms every outcome — it does not diagnose.

On-device AI screening

Skin-lesion and respiratory-sound screening that runs fully offline on the phone. Research-grade, not clinically validated: outputs are labelled patterns to confirm, never diagnoses, and low-confidence results are flagged.

Offline records + sync

Encounters are captured on-device (optionally AES-256 encrypted behind a PIN) and drain to a clinic or network server whenever a connection appears, with last-write-wins safety and FHIR R4 export.

Visits & patient timeline

Beyond triage: consults, follow-ups, chronic-care reviews, antenatal and immunisation visits, with vitals, notes and a clinician-set acuity. Each patient gets a single visit timeline.

Caseload & referrals

A command centre of what’s overdue, due today, RED and open, or waiting to sync, plus a supervisor dashboard by facility and worker. Referrals carry due dates and track whether the patient attended.

Privacy by design

POPIA-operator-grade: encryption at rest, consent capture (declining keeps the record anonymous), token-authenticated sync and an audit log. A clinician is always in the loop — Phila is not a medical device.

What is Phila?

Phila is an offline-first care platform for underserved primary care: WHO-adapted symptom triage, on-device AI screening, encrypted patient records and medical-aid claim preparation — running in any phone's browser, with no connectivity needed after the first load.

Is Phila a medical device, and does it diagnose patients?

No. Phila is clinical decision-support and records infrastructure with a registered clinician always in the loop. It supports triage and referral routing; it does not diagnose, and it is not a registered medical device. Its on-device screening models are research-grade and not clinically validated, so every output is reviewed and confirmed by a clinician.

Does Phila work offline?

Yes. The whole app is cached in the browser and runs fully offline after the first load; records are stored on-device (optionally PIN-encrypted, AES-256) and sync to a clinic or network server whenever a connection appears, with FHIR R4 export.

Where does Phila work, and in what languages?

Phila is built country-agnostic for Southern Africa and beyond, with per-country profiles for currency, payers, data-protection law and claim adapters. The interface is in English; the patient-facing question set is also translated to isiZulu, isiXhosa, Afrikaans and Sesotho (drafts pending mother-tongue review).

How does Phila handle patient data and POPIA?

Records are encrypted at rest on-device, consent is captured (declining keeps the record anonymous), and sync is token-authenticated with an audit log. A data-processing agreement is required before any deployment. The company is raising pre-seed.
